Erling Haaland snubs US TV interview in preparation for World Cup quarter-final vs England

There may not be a hotter name in sports right now than Erling Haaland, whose World Cup exploits with Norway have shot him into global superstardom.

Haaland’s seven goals have him right behind Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot, and have helped Norway to a historic quarter-final, where they will come up against an England team seen as heavy favorites.

But it’s not just his performances on the pitch. The 25-year-old has become one of the most marketable faces in soccer, thanks to a focus on online content and an authenticity that has become increasingly rare.

So naturally, The Tonight Show were desperate to get him on the couch with Jimmy Fallon this week. It sounds like a non-starter.

At last count, Haaland has gained over 16 million followers since the World Cup began last month.

The further he takes this Norway team, the more his legend grows. England is the next obstacle, and it will be a step up from the competition they have faced to this point.

That might be why Haaland is not showing interest in a late-night appearance in New York City. According to The Athletic, “the logistics” of attending will “probably rule that out.”

The Norwegian has been keeping busy, though. He recently made the cover of Time Magazine, agreed a sponsorship deal with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey for his YouTube channel — which just recently passed 100 million views.

One of the most famous people on the planet right now is gearing up for the biggest match of his life on Saturday, so snubbing Fallon makes sense.

Once Norway’s race is run, we should expect to see a lot more of Haaland in the US and back across the pond.
