Every Auburn University player drafted by the Lakers

The Auburn University Tigers men's basketball team has gotten to the NCAA Tournament 14 times over the years, including its most recent trip in 2025, when it got as far as the Final Four. The program is most well known for being where Hall of Famer Charles Barkley honed his skills in the early 1980s, but it has also produced stars such as Mike Mitchell and Chuck Person.

Among active NBA players today, Jabari Smith Jr. of the Houston Rockets and Isaac Okoro of the Chicago Bulls are former Tigers. Walker Kessler, whom the Los Angeles Lakers traded for a few weeks ago, spent his sophomore year with the Tigers before entering the 2022 NBA Draft.

The Lakers have drafted two Auburn University players during their history. Here is a look at both of them.

Layton Johns -- center

An undersized 6-foot-7 center, Johns averaged 12.6 points and nine rebounds a game in three years with the Tigers. The Lakers took him in the fourth round of the 1963 draft, but he never played in the NBA.

Frank Ford -- guard

In four years at Auburn University, Ford registered 10.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists a game. After the Lakers took him in the sixth round of the 1987 draft, he didn't play in the NBA.
