FOX produced some great MLB All-Star game content, but still posted AI slop

The American League shut out the National League in the MLB All-Star game on Tuesday night. Cody Bellinger was named All-Star Game MVP for hitting a two-run single off hometown starter Cristopher Sanchez in the first inning. As far as professional baseball games go, this was one of them.

While the game lacked metaphorical fireworks, it did feature literal fireworks. FOX put together two very cool video packages for the game. First, a Ben Stiller narrated scene where the All-Stars and some mascots went to a carnival. It’s a fun video.

Then later in the evening, after the sun went down, there was another tremendous moment where some kids rode their bikes out onto the field to meet players, get autographs and play catch during a fireworks show while Ray Charles sang America the Beautiful. It was the kind of thing that makes the All-Star Game look special. This was a celebration.

That’s the kind of thing that should become part of the tradition of the game. It’s just cool. All the guys standing in front of the dugout holding sparklers? That’s the kind of thing where you point and say They’re playing a children’s game! They’re just big kids! This is the pomp and circumstance the event deserves.

Then there’s this:

What does this add? You don’t have anyone that can photoshop Bellinger next to the Rocky statue? FOX had already posted about Bellinger winning the ASG MVP and then they added this pointless AI graphic featuring an eagle wearing a baseball jersey. It doesn’t look good or cool. It looks ridiculous. It’s horrible. And I can say that without worrying someone will feel bad because no human created it.

And somehow, it got worse a short time later when they posted a video of that eagle flying over Philadelphia and then ringing the Liberty Bell.

At least they took the tactical sunglasses off the eagle. Less attention was paid to things like the slopified text representing Citizens Bank Park. This post was seen more than anything else FOX Sports posted last night and it was rightly roasted in the comments. If you need a stocky American icon for your Philadelphia baseball graphics, just use some pictures of Kyle Schwarber.

Consider this a plea to all the networks out there. Stop using these. Just stop.
