Greenville High Grad Hosts Inspiring Football Camp for Aspiring Young Athletes
John Franklin-Myers, a proud alumnus of Greenville High School, is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of football talent through his annual football camp. This year marked the sixth edition of the event, held over the weekend, where Franklin-Myers found joy in mentoring young athletes eager to learn the game.
“The youth is where it starts,” Franklin-Myers remarked. “If you’re not giving back, you’re doing yourself a disservice and you’re doing the city a disservice.” His mission is clear: to instill hope and success in the young players he coaches, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.
Franklin-Myers’ journey began as a lineman for the Lions, leading him to Stephen F. Austin University where he excelled as a defensive end. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams and has since played for the New York Jets. His impressive career continued with back-to-back standout seasons at the Denver Broncos, where he recorded a total of 14.5 sacks, before signing with the Tennessee Titans this offseason.
As he returned to Greenville, Franklin-Myers was met with the enthusiastic spirits of the camp participants. “I loved it,” he said, reflecting on the effort the kids put into their training. He noted that the athletes engaged in various drills, showcasing their dedication and passion for the sport. “You see that excitement, you see the smiles on their faces, and that’s why I still do it,” he added.
The two-day camp culminated in an uplifting atmosphere, with young players gathering around Franklin-Myers for photographs and autographs, inspired by the local hero who continues to give back to his community.
