Hanover ask for donations for ex-forward Kovacec, who's in coma
German second division club Hanover have asked for donations for their former forward Kreso Kovacec, who, according to the team, is in a coma.
The 56-year-old underwent emergency surgery after a sudden aortic rupture. Complications arose during the procedure, leading to a stroke and a brain haemorrhage. The father of two is in critical condition.
On their website, Hanover posted a link to a fundraising campaign launched by a long-time friend of Kovacec.
The former forward, who now works as a used-car dealer in Augsburg, played for Hanover in the second division and the regional league from 1995 to 1997, scoring 42 goals in 79 competitive matches.
He played in the Bundesliga during a stint at Hansa Rostock between 1999 and 2002.
