Has Spain ever won a World Cup? Team's history on soccer's biggest stage

Spain is looking to do what its predecessors did more than a decade and a half ago.

That is, follow up a European championship with a World Cup victory. First, however, it must get past France in the 2026 World Cup semifinals on Tuesday, July 14.

In 2010, after winning the 2008 Euros, Spain won its first World Cup. If Spain can win the 2026 World Cup, it will not only follow up that Euro triumph with another major international trophy, but become the seventh nation to win multiple World Cups.

Yes, Spain won the World Cup in 2010. That also was the only time that Spain had ever reached the World Cup final. Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time at Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Not only did the 2010 Spain team follow up its 2008 Euro win with a World Cup title, but also went on to win the 2012 Euros, defeating Italy 4-0 in the final. It's an unprecedented run of international soccer success that the current Spain team would be much obliged to repeat.
