Here's When UConn Football Will Meet Media
The University of Connecticut football team will take the field for the first time under new head coach Jason Candle on Sept. 5 against Lafayette, but they will meet the media for the first time on July 23, per a recent report.
Because the Huskies are not in a conference, they are not part of a conference-sanctioned media day. Instead, they will hold their own event and fans will get the chance to hear from Candle and the newest members of the roster in a friendly setting.
While Candle may not be too revelatory before the start of training camp, there are some things that Huskies fans will certainly want to know.
For starters, who has the lead in the starting quarterback race as camp begins? Which of the team's five highly-touted running backs has the lead on the depth chart? And how will the team replace the production of All-American wide receiver Skyler Bell?
How about the new coaching staff, how will it come together? And how does Candle plan to lead this group which has experienced so much roster turnover in year one?
Finally, how does Candle plan to navigate a tough schedule that features two ACC schools (Syracuse and North Carolina), as well as a Big Ten school (Maryland), and a College Football Playoff participant? (James Madison).
It's all on the table for Candle, and then, of course, you'll hear from the players as well.
Elsewhere in the news for UConn
OG Anunoby won the ESPY Award Wednesday night for Play of the Year, beating out Braylon Mullins of UConn and three other nominees.
Mullins' season-saving shot came against Duke on March 29. Down 72-70 with 10 seconds left, things were dire for the Huskies in a game the Blue Devils once led by 19 points.
Mullins and Solo Ball used tough tandem defense to steal the ball with 5.8 seconds left, and with less than a second remaining, Mullins got the ball back and drained a long 3-point shot, sending the Huskies to a 73-72 win and a trip to the Final Four.
For Anunoby, of the New York Knicks, his moment wasn't quite as dramatic because it didn't come in an elimination game.
Still, his tip-in of a missed shot by Jalen Brunson with 1.2 seconds remaining in Game 4 of the NBA Finals put the Knicks in great position to defeat the San Antonio Spurs in the series.
