‘I Got a Ticket From Rich (Paul)’ — Dillon Brooks Reveals Hilarious Truth Behind Viral LeBron James Staredown Meme
Dillon Brooks went viral for sitting courtside and staring down LeBron James during Game 4 of the 2026 Western Conference semifinals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Brooks’ season ended a round earlier after the Thunder swept his Phoenix Suns, allowing him to troll the four-time MVP.
On Thursday, the controversial wing opened up on the “Road Trippin’ Show” about the never-before-heard chain of events that made the meme possible.
Dillon Brooks’ Viral LeBron James Staredown Meme Gets Unexpected Backstory Involving Rich Paul
Brooks and James have a long history of testy encounters. In Game 3 of the 2023 first-round series between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Lakers, the two had a staredown before talking to each other.
The initial antics eventually led to the Grizzlies’ defensive star, who relished his role as the villain for the upstart team, getting thrown out of the contest. Brooks hit James in the groin, a move that triggered his ejection 17 seconds into the third quarter.
Three years later, Brooks and James crossed paths again in the playoffs but under vastly different circumstances. The former sat courtside while the 22-time All-Star valiantly tried to keep his team alive against the juggernaut Thunder.
Now, Brooks has provided an unexpected backstory behind the viral meme.
“What’s funny is I got the ticket from Rich [Paul]. I asked Rich for the tickets. So, he put me, I guess, right here, and I didn’t know going in. So, I’m already preparing like I want to go and wear some ice,” Brooks opened up to former NBA players Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson. “… I get to the seats, and I’m like, ‘Ah, [expletive].'”
Brooks later shared what really made his day while watching James.
“So, I guess he was talking to a fan or something, like an LA fan, and I guess he was like, ‘I know you’re throwing shade at me.’ You know how he talks like, ‘I know you’re throwing shade at me. I know, I know, I know.’ So I’m looking at him, I’m like, ‘Oh my god, he’s really worried about this fan right here, and you’re [down] 3-0 right now.’ I’m just cracking up right here, and I’m telling my agent on the side, I’m like, ‘Damn, he’s really focused on the wrong [expletive],'” Brooks continued.
As it turned out, the Lakers-Thunder Game 4 matchup was memorable because it was the 41-year-old’s final outing with the Purple and Gold. James announced late last month that he was ending his eight-year stint in Hollywood.
