Jose Mourinho Urges Real Madrid to Intercept Barcelona's Pursuit of Bernardo Silva
Jose Mourinho is reportedly seeking Real Madrid's assistance in thwarting Barcelona's attempts to sign midfielder Bernardo Silva. With Florentino Perez expected to secure victory in the presidential election on Sunday, Mourinho is poised to be reinstated as the club's manager, marking his return to the Bernabeu after more than a decade.
Although Mourinho's appointment has not yet been officially announced, he is already immersed in transfer discussions. He has reportedly endorsed the recent signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, while also aiming to enhance the squad with experienced players who can address the deficiencies observed over the past two seasons.
The Portuguese manager has identified his fellow countryman, Silva, as a key target. According to Diario AS, Mourinho is encouraging Real Madrid to pursue the Manchester City star, who will soon be available as a free agent, thereby outmaneuvering both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the process.
In addition to Silva, Mourinho is also interested in West Ham United’s Matheus Fernandes. However, Silva's status as a free agent makes him a more feasible acquisition for the club, especially since the Madrid board had previously dismissed the opportunity to sign him through agent Jorge Mendes.
While Real Madrid currently trails Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the hunt for Silva, the club has time to negotiate, as the 31-year-old will not finalize his next move until after the 2026 World Cup. This allows room for discussions with Mendes if the club's sporting department sees fit. Silva's versatility, covering both midfield and right-wing roles, could make him an excellent addition to the squad.
