Kasper Schmeichel Draws Humorous Parallels Between England and the Dallas Cowboys
With the FIFA World Cup set to take place in North America, there has been a concerted effort to intertwine soccer with the NFL, the country’s most popular sport. Fox analyst Kasper Schmeichel made a memorable comparison between the England national team and the iconic Dallas Cowboys during a recent segment.
As England faced Croatia in the state-of-the-art venue often referred to as "Dallas Stadium," Schmeichel couldn’t help but draw a humorous analogy. This match marked the beginning of England's 2026 World Cup journey, reviving memories of their previous semifinal clash in 2018, where Croatia unexpectedly triumphed in extra time, thwarting England's hopes of a second World Cup title.
During the Fox show "World Cup Now," alongside former England stars Alex Scott and Peter Crouch, Schmeichel remarked, “I’ll liken England to the Dallas Cowboys a little bit… they’ve won it once and have never stopped talking about it.” He elaborated, referencing the Cowboys’ storied history, “We’re in the Dallas Cowboys stadium. A massive, massive team with so much talent, but they won it once and they’ve never stopped talking about it.”
While the Cowboys boast five Super Bowl victories compared to England's single World Cup win, Schmeichel pointed out the media's relentless focus on both teams, suggesting that this hype often overshadows their on-field accomplishments. He noted, "Given the Cowboys have gone 30 seasons without a Super Bowl and it’s been 60 years since England’s last major trophy, maybe the comparison isn’t so far-fetched after all."
In a strong start to their tournament, England secured a 4-2 victory against Croatia, with Harry Kane scoring twice, maintaining their reputation for a promising beginning that often leads to heartbreak later on.
