Kings Suffer First Summer League Loss, Fall 104-85 Against Wizards
The Sacramento Kings suffered their first setback of the 2026 NBA Summer League, losing 104-85 against the Washington Wizards.
Sacramento got off to a hot start in the first quarter, riding the momentum from the team's first four victories.
Second year big man Maxime Raynaud was cooking early in his return to the team, recording a quick five points and five rebounds in the first period.
Raynaud had been playing with the French National Team at the FIBA qualifiers, but traveled back to join the Kings' Summer League roster earlier this week.
However, after Raynaud's early flurry, Sacramento's offensive flow disappeared in the second period, as the Wizards outscored the Kings 36-17.
Only two Washington players scored in double digits, but they both had big nights.
No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa scored 23 points, adding seven rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks.
The former BYU standout applied heavy rim pressure on Sacramento's interior defense, getting to the free-throw line and capitalizing on the inside.
Dybantsa scored six points in the second quarter, dropping multiple dimes and pushing pace in transition.
The Wizards took a 54-41 lead into the break.
The Kings had a much better overall showing following halftime, but could not muster a big enough run to get back in the game.
A big part of this was due to second-year forward Will Riley, knocking down 6-of-8 3-point attempts en route to a 32-point showing.
Riley was virtually unstoppable on the offensive end, getting to his spots and hitting his shots at a high rate.
The former Illinois product had 13 points in the final quarter, knocking down back-to-back triples late in the game to close it out.
On the Kings' side, No. 7 overall pick Darius Acuff Jr. had his worst game of the preseason, shooting just 4-of-14 field goal attempts and failing to make a three.
Acuff never got into a groove, and also struggled with turnovers, surrendering five giveaways.
Expect Acuff to have a better performance in his next appearance as he continues to experience playing alongside Raynaud, who was the clear offensive No. 1 option on Sunday.
Raynaud finished with a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double, knocking down two triples.
Going forward, Raynaud will be able to benefit from Acuff'a playmaking and shot creation, as the two will continue to develop as pick-and-roll threats.
The Kings are back in action Tuesday, July 14, as they look to beat the Brooklyn Nets for a second time this offseason.
