Kolby Branch Caps College Career with Home Run and Brotherly Moment
In a memorable conclusion to his college baseball journey, Kolby Branch of Georgia hit a solo home run that soared 401 feet to left center field during his last at-bat. However, the most heartwarming moment came as he rounded second base.
As Kolby approached second, he shared a high-five with his younger brother, Kyle Branch, who plays second base for Oklahoma. This touching exchange took place in the bottom of the ninth inning during the Sooners' 11-4 victory over the third-ranked Bulldogs in the 2026 College World Series on June 17.
“What an absolutely incredible moment for the Branch family in Kolby Branch's final collegiate AB, getting to high five his brother rounding the bases while parents are in stands. Can’t script it,” tweeted 11Point7 College Baseball.
The Branch siblings have been standout stories throughout the tournament, with both playing key roles for their respective teams. Their parents, Kari and Rusty, proudly supported their sons from the stands, sporting split jerseys representing both Oklahoma and Georgia.
Kolby’s home run marked his 20th of the season for the Bulldogs, but the victory for the Sooners meant Georgia's elimination from the tournament, allowing Oklahoma a spot in the championship series against No. 5 North Carolina. Kyle, a sophomore, has played 56 games this season, with a batting average of .209 and 21 RBIs.
With this being the Sooners' second win against the Bulldogs in just three days, the rivalry has become intense. “We support each other, hands down, no matter what,” Kyle said, reflecting on their relationship. “It’s become one of my favorite relationships in my life.” In this case, the brotherly support was highlighted in a simple yet meaningful gesture.
