Kylian Mbappe condemns Paraguayan senator for racial abuse after World Cup win
France striker Kylian Mbappe called Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla a “despicable woman” and unworthy of her government position after she unleashed a racial attack on him following Paraguay’s exit in the World Cup Round of 32.
Mbappe scored the winning penalty in the 70th minute to help France secure a 1-0 win in an ill-tempered match against Paraguay. After the match, Amarilla took to social media, describing Mbappe as a “colonized Cameroonian desperately trying to pass himself off as French,” and she complained that Paraguay’s players didn’t slap him afterward.
“You do not represent Paraguay, that country which has sweated passion and honour throughout the competition,” Mbappe responded. “Through your recklessness and your brazen racism, the entire world has already forgotten the journey and the historic effort that your players accomplished during this World Cup, making way for an incompetent woman who gives the worst possible image of her country. I will never allow people like her the freedom to spread their hatred and racism across the world.”
The French Football Federation (FFF) doubled down on Mbappe, announcing plans to file criminal charges against Amarilla, whose remarks were described as “criminal and reprehensible.”

Emmanuel Macron backs Kylian Mbappe after racist abuse
French president Emmanuel Macron praised Kylian Mbappe for taking a stand against Celeste Amarilla’s racist remarks, saying that he has scored “another goal,” this time against racism.
“Another goal for Kylian Mbappe. Against racism this time. All my support. When words defile, our values respond: dignity, respect, fraternity,” Macron posted.
Meanwhile, the Paraguayan government said it “deplores and rejects the statements” made by Amarilla because they are “contrary to the values and principles that inspire peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity that our country promotes.”
Mbappe has been one of the top-performing stars in this year’s World Cup, as he’s joint-second in the Golden Boot race with seven goals. After eliminating Paraguay, France will face Morocco in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
