Marquette Announced All The Games On The Men’s Basketball Canadian Tour

Thanks to some clever Internet-ing, we already knew about one game on the Marquette men’s basketball trip to Canada next week. On Tuesday, Marquette announced the dates and opponents for the rest of the tour.

Here’s the full schedule:

Wednesday, July 29: vs Calgary
Thursday, July 30: vs Trinity Western
Saturday, August 1: vs Fraser Valley

And that’s all we’ve got. No locations or times on any of those, although we already knew that the Calgary game will be at Langley Christian High School’s gym. Why is Marquette not telling us where the games are? No idea! The announcement from Langley Christian made it very clear that the game is going to be open to the public, so it’s not like it’s a big secret. You’d think there’s got to be a Marquette fan or seven up in Vancouver and maaaaaaybe they’d like to wander by and see the team? Apparently that doesn’t matter to whoever’s making the decision to put these press releases together. I did however accidentally find out about the Trinity Western game when knocking together the scouting reports further down the page. It’s at the David E. Enarson Gymnasium on Trinity Western’s campus in Langley, BC, with tipoff set for 7pm Pacific or 9pm Central. $15 for general admission, although they’ll sell you a $100 courtside seat that comes with a meal, apparently.

And now I’m going to quote directly from the press release:

Live statistics and highlights of the games, along with behind-the-scenes access to the trip, will be provided via the team’s official social media accounts.

Live statistics will be available, but we’re not going to tell you when the game is happening so you could actually try to find the link at that time. Awesome work. Not a single mention of a streaming broadcast of any of these games, not even for a quick $5 price point through the team’s YouTube, or even for free via YouTube. Without knowing where all three games are being played, I can’t 100% criticize this decision. If the building’s not set up with a decent angle to shoot the court with just one camera from the top of the bleachers, then no streaming is fine. I get that.

However, it seems like a missed opportunity to not provide an opportunity to build some hype for the 2026-27 season, especially since the program is looking to rebound from the worst record in a long time. If this is an administrative decision to skip the streaming purely for a refusal to do it and not a building logistics reason, then that’s a bad decision. If this is an insistence on refusing to stream the games from the coaching staff, then someone on the administration side has to put their big boy pants on and tell the coaches — or presumably one very specific coach — that they are wrong and public relations/advertising/marketing in the wake of a failed season is more important than whatever precious tactical reasons they might have.

Purdue’s streaming their game against Trinity Western, just saying. You have to pay TWU’s conference $8 USD to watch, but it’s still happening.

Yes, there is an open practice for season ticket holders coming up on Thursday, July 23rd. No, I will not be attending because 1) the timing doesn’t quite 100% work with my schedule and 2) I’m finding the open practices/scrimmages to be less and less useful in terms of gaining a scouting report on the new players. There’s only so many times you can watch an open gym and say “I liked the flickers of promise from Caedin Hamilton here” and then see him be essentially unplayable for two straight seasons before you give up on the entire premise, y’know?

Scouting reports!

Trinity Western had a 12-12 record in 2025-26 with a 9-11 mark in Canada West conference play. They opened their year with a pair of non-conference wins and then won a CW conference tournament play-in game before falling 95-67 to Victoria in the quarterfinals. Third year guard Jack Vandenberg was their leading scorer, putting up 15.8 points per game in 20 appearances. They had a 6’11” center by the name of Connor Platz averaging over 10 points and eight rebounds per game last year, but he’s listed on last year’s roster as a fifth year player. I presume he’s done with college now, and he was the only guy north of 6’7” on the roster.

Fraser Valley went 14-8 this past season with a 13-7 record in Canada West conference play. The extra two games come from the conference tournament where they beat Regina in the play-in and then lost 80-66 to Alberta in the quarterfinals. Bennett O’Connor was their leading scorer at 15.4 points per game last season, and since the roster lists the 6’0” guard as a third year player, I presume he’s still on the roster and returning next season. O’Connor also led the team in assists at 4.6 per game, while fellow third year player Ismael Hernandez led in rebounds at 6.3 per game as a 6’7” guard/forward.
