Mike Francesa is not amused with this Mets ritual: ‘What is wrong with you?’
Mike Francesa is not impressed with the Mets.
Especially not when they’re celebrating home runs during another woeful loss.
In the Mets 7-2 loss Monday to the Reds — their fourth straight — Marcus Semien hit a solo home run. When he came back to the dugout, he was greeted with the orange hard hat and work vest to pose for a picture, the Mets signature home run ritual this year.
Francesa was not pleased.
“You’re as anemic as any team can be in the major leagues,” Francesa said on the Mike Francesa Podcast. "You are mired in another losing streak. You can’t score. You’re down 7-0. You hit a solo homer, and in the dugout, you want to dress the guy up in a dumb hat and a vest? What’s wrong with you?”
Dugout routines after a home run have become popularized over the last few seasons. Last year the Mets held up a sign that read “La Familia,” and in 2024, players held up the orange-and-blue “OMG” sign after infielder Jose Iglesias’ hit song took the team by storm.
“Isn’t there a point where we say ‘hey, we have to get back to basics here?’” Francesa said. “If I’m on the other team, I’m laughing at them…It’s embarrassing. Act like a baseball team. You can’t play like a baseball team. You can’t hit like a baseball team. You don’t know what the heck you’re doing.”
Despite a massive payroll, the Mets have been among the worst offensive teams in baseball. Monday marked the 27th time the Mets have scored two runs or fewer this season.
