The Seattle Mariners selected Ohio State baseball junior catcher Mason Eckelman in the eighth round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday. He was the 250th overall pick.

Out of Walsh Jesuit High School in Broadview Heights, Ohio, Eckelman batted a career-best .304 and set career-highs in runs scored (42), hits (59), doubles (15), triples (four), home runs (eight) and RBIs (47). He earned a Third Team All-Big Ten selection for his efforts this season. For his career, Eckelman batted .280 with 77 runs scored, 115 hits, 13 home runs, and 81 RBIs.

The OSU backstop becomes the fourth Ohio State player to be selected by the Mariners, and the first to be picked by Seattle since Bob Worley in the 20th round of the 1992 MLB Draft. Another former Buckeye, Dominic Canzone, who was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round in 2019, is currently on the Mariners’ Major League roster.

We'll follow Eckelman's journey as he tries to make his way to the Big Leagues, but for now, we wish him well as he takes the next step in his baseball career.
