Palace City 14U Secures Win Against Yankton in Doubleheader Showdown
MITCHELL — On Wednesday at Drake Field, the Palace City 14-and-under baseball team faced off against Yankton in a home doubleheader, managing to claim one victory. PCB triumphed in the first game with a score of 13-9 after six innings, but fell short in the second match, losing 16-5 after four innings.
The first game saw a strong start from PCB, which produced an impressive offensive display, scoring multiple runs in the first three innings to establish an early lead of 8-0. Yankton fought back with four runs in the top of the fifth, but Mitchell countered with a five-run inning to solidify their lead. Preston Maeschen and Keniel Padilla each recorded three hits and three RBIs, while Isaac Fischer contributed three RBIs with a hit and a walk. Meade Schlimgen and Oaklee Cwach also added two hits each to the team’s effort. Gavin Auch took the mound for PCB, earning the win after pitching five innings.
For Yankton, Brody Wrage, Karter Reifenrath, Colin Frazee, and William Schoenfelder each notched two hits in the game.
The second game, however, saw a stark contrast in PCB's performance, as their offensive production dwindled to just three hits, despite drawing 10 walks. Maeschen once again stepped up with two hits and two runs scored, while Micah Bennett provided the lone additional hit. Schlimgen, Fischer, Auch, and Kristopher Hatwan each contributed by drawing two walks.
Yankton's Reifenrath had an outstanding game, racking up three hits and driving in five runs, and he also took the mound as the starting pitcher. Ethan Sager added two hits and three RBIs as well, helping Yankton to a commanding fourth inning where they scored 12 runs, overcoming a 5-4 deficit.
Looking ahead, the PCBA 14U team, now with a record of 6-11, is gearing up for the Sioux Falls Slam tournament scheduled from June 19-21.
