The Pittsburgh Pirates are bringing an outfielder back into the organization who could help them down the road.

Dominic Fletcher has signed a minor league contract with the Pirates, according to MLB's official transactions log.

Fletcher actually had spent most of this season in the Pirates' organization playing at Triple-A Indianapolis. 

On July 1, he exercised an opt-out in his contract. Since he hadn't reached MLB yet, he had that choice to pursue free agency and a new deal elsewhere.

Evidently, the opportunity didn't exist that Fletcher may have been hoping for, so he's back with Indianapolis.

The 28-year old outfielder has played well at Triple-A this season, putting up a .288 batting average with an .890 OPS and eight home runs.

He can play both center field and right fielder, and in his MLB career, he has 13 Defensive Runs Saved.

Fletcher appeared in 28 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023, then a combined 84 games for the Chicago White Sox between 2024 and 2025.

He's a career .233 hitter at the MLB level, although his minor league hitting stats suggest there might be a bit of untapped upside.

More likely, though, he'd be a fringe big leaguer whose best contributions come with a glove on his hand.

Fletcher was originally a second-round pick by the Diamondbacks in 2019 out of the University of Arkansas, and now he's just hoping to make it back to the major leagues.

He apparently feels most comfortable getting a chance to do that in the Pirates' system, and in the meantime, he'll try to impress at Triple-A to earn a call.
