‘Potential Breadcrumbs’ — NFL Insider Reveals How Taylor Swift Wedding Shares Major Hint About Travis Kelce’s ‘$40M’ Retirement Plan
While he’s getting up there in age, the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the best tight ends. Though as Travis Kelce prepares to turn 37 in October, it’s a reminder that not even Hall of Fame talents can play football forever.
Kelce has already played 13 NFL seasons. In each of the past few years, there have been rumblings of a potential retirement. That hasn’t happened yet.
However, now that Kelce is married, one can’t help but wonder if he’ll begin to prioritize his relationship more and more. Plus, eventually Father Time will catch up to the 11-time Pro Bowl tight end. Once Kelce does hang up his cleats, what will he pick up next?
Travis Kelce Could Grab NFL Microphone After Chiefs Career
Just because Kelce will eventually quit playing football, much like his older brother Jason once did, it doesn’t mean he’ll disappear out of the spotlight. The Kelce brothers have such jovial personalities that they could certainly find sustained success with their “New Heights” podcast.
Or, Travis could join the long line of former NFL athletes who make a second living by having a broadcasting career on TV.
Recently, Awful Announcing took notice of the significant media presence, specifically from Amazon, Fox Sports, and ESPN, at the Kelce-Swift wedding.
“Practically everyone from the NFL on Fox team was in attendance: Tom Brady, Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson (who are friends with the couple), Michael Strahan, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, and even [Dean] Blandino,” Drew Lerner writes. “Practically everyone from Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football team was there: Tony Gonzalez, Richard Sherman, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth, and the aforementioned Thompson… A strong contingent of ESPN NFL personalities also showed up, including Joe Buck and wife Michelle Beisner-Buck, Rich Eisen, Pat McAfee, Stephen A. Smith, and, of course, Jason Kelce.”
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk also noted that CBS Sports had Jim Nantz and Tony Romo in attendance. NBC Sports isn’t believed to have had a media presence there.
Awful Announcing theorized that Travis used his invite list “to curry favor with the NFL broadcasters he’d most like to work for” after he retires. Florio also weighed in.
“The folks at Awful Announcing had something yesterday about the very heavy presence of NFL people from Amazon and from Fox,” Florio said.
“I was told that Jim Nantz and Tony Romo were there. There was nobody that I know of from NBC. This becomes potential breadcrumbs for what Travis is thinking about by way of media opportunities as soon as 2027. This is his last year.”

As Kelce eyes what to do next after what Florio speculates will be the Chiefs pass-catcher’s final NFL season, there could be a TV chair waiting for him at Amazon, post-retirement.
“There’s already been some rumbling about Kelce eyeballing the Kirk Herbstreit chair for the Thursday Night Football broadcast,” Florio added. “And Herbstreit, under contract only through 2026. All those Amazon people there…”

Florio also mentions the possibility of taking a future opening on the Fox NFL Sunday desk, but he believes Kelce could perform both tasks, raking in money from both football networks.
“I think that if he would end up with those two gigs, and I think it would maybe be Amazon at first, because you got to wait for the spot to open at Fox,” Florio commented. “Amazon at first, enhance it with Fox. If he was doing both right now, I’d say the over/under is $40 million combined: $25 million for Amazon, $15 million for Fox, and $25 million may be low. Brady’s at $375 (million).”
If Kelce is offered $40 million in annual salary as a broadcaster, then he’ll be crushing life once he retires from the NFL, too. After all, Kelce has made an estimated $111 million across 13 seasons. Imagine not having to risk further injury while making more than he’s ever made in a single season? It would be a no-brainer.
