Ryan Fox didn't waste time hitting shots or drinking wine from the Claret Jug at The Open

Ryan Fox didn't waste any time hitting drives, approach shots or winning birdie putts Sunday to claim The Open 2026 title. He also didn't hesitate to celebrate with the Claret Jug.

Over the years, who knows exactly what has been poured into — and drank out of — the 154-year-old symbol of golf's oldest major. Crafted in 1872 by Mackay Cunningham & Company of Edinburgh, according to the R&A, the cup has held wine, beer and any number of other spiked liquids.

Soon after winning it, Fox poured some wine into the Jug to kickstart his celebration.

On Golf Channel's Live From the Open Championship set, near the end of Fox's interview with the gang, he admitted it was some red wine but that it had to be poured out for some photos but he reassured everyone there was more coming.

Fox later met with the members of the host Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

What a whirlwind for Fox, a longshot when the week started and the lowest-ranked golfer in the OWGR (56) since Darren Clarke won it in 2011.
