The Los Angeles Rams have made a habit of making bold moves this offseason, headlined by blockbuster trades for Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie. So when Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea requested a trade Monday, it didn't take long for speculation to link the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle to Los Angeles.

Head coach Sean McVay wasted no time cooling that speculation off, though.

Appearing on "Up & Adams," McVay was asked point-blank by host Kay Adams about the Rams' level of interest in Vea. His answer, delivered with a few stammers and a laugh, made clear that any pursuit isn't happening anytime soon.

"He's a stud," McVay said. "I think that he is a great player that's always been a problem to game plan against, but I think we feel good about our group right now."

The response tracks with where the Rams stand on their defensive line. Kobie Turner and Poona Ford are already entrenched as the starting interior duo, and with Turner in the final year of his deal and defensive end Braden Fiske extension-eligible, adding a 31-year-old on a hefty contract wasn't likely to be a priority — especially after L.A. already committed significant draft capital to land Garrett and McDuffie this offseason.

Vea, who's in the last year of his four-year, $71 million deal with Tampa Bay, has reportedly expressed a preference for a West Coast destination, putting the 49ers, Chargers and Raiders in the mix as more realistic suitors. For the Rams, McVay's answer suggests the door is pretty firmly shut.
