Suárez's Two Homers Fuel Reds to Dominant 12-0 Win Over Mets

CINCINNATI (AP) — Eugenio Suárez delivered a standout performance with two home runs and a career-best six RBIs, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a commanding 12-0 victory against the New York Mets on Monday night. His impressive display included a grand slam during a six-run second inning.

Alongside Suárez, JJ Bleday contributed with a three-run homer, while Chase Burns (8-1) showcased his pitching prowess, striking out seven over five innings. This victory marked Cincinnati's most significant shutout since they defeated Philadelphia 13-0 on April 15, 2023. The Reds’ pitching staff, including Burns and three relievers, held the Mets to just six hits, securing their fifth shutout of the season.

Bo Bichette recorded three hits for New York, which suffered its eighth shutout loss this season, representing their largest margin of defeat in eight years. The Mets had opportunities to score, loading the bases with one out in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, yet failed to convert.

In the first inning, Suárez provided an early lead with a two-run homer off Mets starter Tobias Myers (0-2), hitting a full-count fastball to left field that made the score 3-0. The Reds exploded for six more runs in the second inning, highlighted by Suárez’s grand slam to center field off Jonathan Pintaro, extending the lead to 9-0. This marked Suárez's ninth career grand slam and his 24th game with multiple home runs.

Burns began the game strong, striking out six of the first seven batters he faced, ultimately allowing just four hits and lowering his ERA to an impressive 2.01. Notably, this game featured a historic feat, as it was the first instance since 1920 where a player and pitcher on a National League team both achieved at least six RBIs and six strikeouts within the first three innings.

Looking ahead, the Mets are set to activate RHP Kodai Senga (0-4, 9.00 ERA) from the injured list for his first start since April 26. In contrast, RHP Brady Singer (2-6, 5.61) will take the mound for Cincinnati.
