Three More Trojans Selected on Day 2 of 2026 MLB Draft

After USC baseball ace Mason Edwards was drafted with the No. 47 overall pick on Day 1 of the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday, three more Trojans heard their names called on Day 2 of the draft on Sunday.

Augie Lopez (No. 305)

Catcher Augie Lopez is staying close to Los Angeles, as the San Diego Padres drafted the sophomore with the No. 305 pick in the 10th round. Lopez is also from Hermosa Beach, California, which means he will also be staying close to home.

Lopez played two seasons with USC. At the plate, he offers a lot of power and averaged .278 with 19 home runs and 57 RBIs this season. As a freshman in 2025, he was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Grant Govel (No. 468)

In the 16th round of the draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted sophomore right-hander Grant Govel with the No. 468 pick. Entering the draft, Govel was ranked as the No. 216 prospect by MLB, so he fell farther down in the draft than projected.

Govel finished the 2026 season with a 2.93 ERA and 96 strikeouts across a team-leading 98.1 innings for USC. His 96 strikeouts ranked second on the team behind Edwards. He also spent both seasons of his collegiate career with the Trojans.

Adam Troy (No. 518)

The fourth and final Trojan selected during the 2026 draft was right-handed pitcher Adam Troy. The Philadelphia Phillies claimed Troy with the No. 519 pick in the 17th round of the draft.

Troy played the first two seasons of his career at Pepperdine before transferring to USC for the 2026 season. With the Trojans, he posted a 4.28 ERA and 39 strikeouts across 33.2 innings.

In total, four Trojans were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft.
