Two Indian pacers to train with Australia's Test squad in Brisbane
Two young Indian fast bowlers, Abhishek Moond and Vasudev Prasad Singh, will train alongside Australia's Test squad next week.
Abhishek Moond and Vasudev Prasad Singh are among a four-member MRF Pace Foundation delegation currently attending a two-week high-performance program at Cricket Australia's National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Brisbane from July 13 to 24.
The delegation also includes former India fast bowler Tinu Yohannan and MRF Pace Foundation Program Manager and Head Coach M. Senthilnathan.
The exchange is part of a development program that has linked the MRF Pace Foundation and Cricket Australia for more than three decades.
The partnership dates back to 1992 and grew out of the association with Australian fast-bowling great Dennis Lillee, who played a key role in the development of the MRF Pace Foundation after it was established in Chennai in 1987.
Over the years, the program has given young Indian cricketers the chance to experience Australian conditions and training methods, while Australian players have travelled to Chennai to prepare for subcontinental conditions.
Although the partnership initially focused on fast bowling, it has gradually expanded into a broader high-performance exchange. In recent years, Australian batters, spinners and wicketkeepers have regularly trained at the MRF Pace Foundation to improve their game against spin and adapt to Indian conditions.
Several leading cricketers have been associated with the program. Australian fast bowlers Glenn McGrath, Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee have all spent time connected with the Foundation, while Indian cricket has benefited through the development of pacers such as Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan and several others who strengthened India's pace-bowling resources over the years.
The exchange has also helped emerging Australian players gain overseas experience. Recent participants include Sam Konstas, Nathan McSweeney, Todd Murphy, Cooper Connolly, Josh Philippe, Ollie Peake, Corey Rocchiccioli, Joel Davies and Jason Sangha.
The program will continue next month, with a Cricket Australia development squad set to visit the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai from August 1 for a two-week training camp. Some of Australia's leading young players are expected to be part of the tour, continuing an exchange program that has supported player development in both countries for more than 30 years.
