Uncertain Future for Jalen Carter with the Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have opted not to engage in the Myles Garrett trade discussions, primarily due to their reluctance to include Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter in any potential deal. This decision appears even more perplexing in light of a recent report from Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, which casts doubt on Carter's long-term prospects with the team.
According to Breer, the Eagles are hesitant to commit to Carter financially. "The answer is yes, they are hesitant to pay him," Breer noted, emphasizing that the team's actions speak volumes. Historically, the Eagles have been proactive in signing their players, recognizing that early agreements often yield more favorable contract terms. Breer points out, "the fact that we’re into June without Jalen Carter having a deal is notable."
The situation resembles that of wide receiver George Pickens, who is facing a similar predicament with the Dallas Cowboys. Despite a standout season in 2025, where he achieved 93 receptions, 1,429 yards, and nine touchdowns, the Cowboys are waiting for him to replicate that success before investing heavily in a new contract.
Carter, who has been selected for two Pro Bowls and earned All-Pro honors, has experienced some off-the-field challenges that may influence the Eagles' decision-making. He faced a one-game suspension last year for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and was involved in a tragic street racing incident that led to the deaths of former Georgia football player Devin Willock and UGA staff member Chandler LeCroy.
If Carter can maintain his Pro Bowl-caliber performance during the 2026 season, it will be hard for the Eagles to overlook his value and not extend a lucrative offer.
