What Nashville Predators said about missed tripping call in loss to Detroit
The Nashville Predators' playoff hopes took a hit on March 2, dropping two more points in a loss to the Detroit Red Wings at Bridgestone Arena.
But the loss hurts more considering the momentum swing from a possible missed call by the officials in the second period.
With the Predators on the power play in a 2-2 game, Marco Kasper upended Roman Josi along the wall. Replay would later show a trip – Kasper's stick took out Josi's skates as the two were fighting for a loose puck.
But the officials let play continue, resulting in a shorthanded chance the other way. Albert Johansson scored off a pass from Kasper, giving Detroit a 3-2 lead. They would go on to win 4-2 with Alex DeBrincat added a late empty net goal.
From a potential 5-on-3 power play to down 3-2, all the result of a missed tripping call.
After the loss, players were careful with their description of the missed call, but clearly frustrated by the result.

"I thought it was a trip," Josi said. "I fell pretty hard. Stuff happens out there, it happens fast. It's not easy, it happens fast for us and for everyone else. I certainly make mistakes out there."
Forwards Luke Evangelista and Jonathan Marchessault, also on the ice at the time, agreed with their captain.
"I don't know what I'm allowed to say and not allowed to say, but everyone saw the same replay," Evangelista said. "I think we would have liked to see that called. Everyone saw the same replay."
Marchessault added that the timing of the play made it that much worse.
"When you take someone's legs out and it creates a 2-on-1 the other way and it goes in the back of the net," Marchessault said. "It couldn't be a worse situation for us."
But Josi admitted there was plenty of time left to spark a turn around. Nashville had opportunities to tie the game, but couldn't get anything by Red Wings goaltender Cam Talbot in the third period.
"Things happen, but that's not why we lost," Josi said. "We had a lot of things we could do better, we had a lot of looks in the third, we just couldn't capitalize."
Next up, the Predators visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 3 (6 p.m. CT, FanDuel Sports Network).
