Spain and Belgium will settle their World Cup quarterfinal at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Ca., with kickoff at 3 p.m. ET Friday. That's noon local time, an early start for a weekday, and a stadium used to hosting prime-time events.

Los Angeles Stadium, as it will be called on the broadcast per FIFA rules, will host the quarterfinal between two teams that could not be more different.

Spain hasn't conceded a goal in five games, and goalkeeper Unai Simon now holds the World Cup record for the longest run without conceding at 609 minutes. Belgium gives up goals and doesn't care, because it scores more. The Red Devils scored four goals against the United States in the round of 16. Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku are making one last run at the title their golden generation never won.

Whoever survives trades California for Texas. The semifinal is Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, against France, which ousted Morocco on Thursday.

This will be the eighth and final World Cup game at SoFi Stadium. It hosted five group-stage games, including two featuring the U.S., two round-of-32 games and this quarterfinal.

SoFi opened in 2020 and cost about $5 billion, more than any stadium ever built. It sits roughly 10 miles southwest of downtown, near enough to LAX that the planes seem to skim the roof. The Rams and Chargers both call it home, the Rams won a Super Bowl there in February 2022, and the 2028 Olympics are headed there in 2028.
