Switzerland was the underdog heading into the match against the 2022 World Cup champions. They are playing their second fixture without leading scorer Johan Manzambi, who suffered an injury in training.
Switzerland won Group B, which also featured host nation Canada. In the knockout rounds, they beat Algeria 2-0 and then outlasted Colombia in penalty kicks after going scoreless in the match.
Making it to the quarterfinals ties their best World Cup run. They also made it this far in 1934, 1938 and 1954.
