Who will be X-factor to swing the 2026 season in Patriots' favor?
The New England Patriots are expected to be in the Super Bowl race again in 2026 and will need an X-Factor to help the team win pivotal games en route to a Vince Lombardi Trophy come season’s end.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice, a cornerback other than Christian Gonzalez will be the X-factor for the Patriots, with the potential to swing the season.
”His tag-team partner Carlton Davis is more of a scrappy handfighter,” Tice said. “The bee sting to Gonzalez's floating butterfly, if you will. The Patriots got 21 games out of Davis last year, which was the first time he hasn't missed any time in a season since he entered the NFL in 2018. Gonzalez's on-off splits can be researched because, well, he missed time.”
Davis has the championship experience as a Super Bowl winner from the 2020 season to give the Patriots strong coverage on the outside next season. Nevertheless, a career year from him individually would go a long way for New England in stopping prolific passing attacks next season.
Marcus Jones will also be looked at to provide great defense out of the slot. His performance will be needed for the Patriots against several versatile slot receivers on the schedule.
