Why Marc Marquez thinks Marco Bezzecchi has key advantage
Marc Marquez believes Ducati should take inspiration from Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia’s approach this season as he looks to work his way back into the title conversation.
Following a disappointing result at the Spanish Grand Prix, some have started to question whether Marquez has missed his final shot at another world championship, not just this year but perhaps for good.
Marquez now sits 44 points behind Bezzecchi, one of the biggest gaps he’s faced in his career, making a comeback seem like a real long shot.
Injuries appear to be playing a bigger role than first thought, which has made it tough for him to get going early in the season.
But Marquez isn’t just focused on closing the gap. He’s also looking at how Bezzecchi and Aprilia have found success this year and thinking about what Ducati can learn from their approach.
Marc Marquez tells Ducati to follow Marco Bezzecchi and Aprilia’s approach to race weekends
Speaking on Nicoabad TV, MotoGP reporter Mela Chercoles spoke about the mindset Marc Marquez wants to adapt as he looks to come back in the title race against Marco Bezzecchi.
Marquez is said to respect how Bezzecchi approaches his preparations, believing that Ducati would benefit from following a similar plan.
Chercoles highlighted the contrast between their strategies, suggesting that Marquez sees a clear advantage in Bezzecchi’s method:
“If you look at Bezzecchi on Saturday, he’s at 0-3. Then a second place. He puts in a ton of work in the pits on Saturday. He’s the one who works harder than anyone else, by far.
“He loves being in the pits, he works wonderfully, he sees what everyone is doing, he gets along well with Flamigni, with his engineers, and then he always takes a step forward on Sunday.
“Marc always tells Ducati, Bezzecchi always improves on Saturday’s performance on Sunday, and we have to do that too.
“Because Marc usually starts stronger and then they catch up to him. He has to manage to start strong and still develop a bit.”
Marc Marquez crashed trying to fight off Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio
Chercoles also mentioned during his Spanish Grand Prix review that Marquez explained the crash wasn’t about battling with Alex Marquez, but rather an effort to hold off Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
“Marc told us he was pushing hard not to get back on his brother and return the favour, but to escape those who were chasing him – Bezzecchi and Di Giannantonio. And I believe him because he knew better than anyone that Alex Márquez was going to win on Sunday…”
There are growing questions about whether Marquez can still handle the faster corners, something that seemed evident during the Spanish Grand Prix.
He’ll need a stronger showing at Le Mans if he wants any chance of keeping his title hopes alive. Right now, they’re hanging by a thread.
