Isaac Guerendo seemed like he could make a case to be the San Francisco 49ers' long-term backup running back.
Times have changed, though, and now he might not even be a part of the 49ers' roster in 2026.
In a new ESPN 53-man roster projection, Guerendo was left off the team.
The predicted group includes three traditional RBs: Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James and Kaelon Black.
The projection also has fullback Kyle Juszczyk on the roster.
The emergence of James last year is probably a lot of the factor in Guerendo not being a part of the group.
Guerendo was also injured last season, which allowed for other RBs to show what they were capable of.
Having just turned 26, Guerendo would be cut after just two seasons playing with the 49ers.

He was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after a college career split between Wisconsin and Louisville.
As a rookie, Guerendo ran 84 times for 420 yards and four touchdowns. He also caught 15 passes for 152 yards.
But in 2025, despite appearing in 14 games, Guerendo didn't have a single offensive touch.
He returned five kicks for 100 yards in 2025, and he also made four tackles and forced a fumble on special teams.
If Guerendo is cut, it seems like another team would give him a chance, in large part because of the success he had offensively as a rookie.
Things could still change during the preseason, too, but it looks like an uphill climb for Guerendo with the 49ers.
