5 Stats and Records From Avalanche’s High-Scoring Game 1 Victory
There were far too many records to keep up with from the Avalanche’s 9-6 victory over the Minnesota Wild in Game 1 on Sunday. Here are five that stuck out most.
Most Goals By Avalanche In a Playoff Game
The nine goals the Avalanche scored was a first in their franchise’s playoff history. The Avs had eight against the Edmonton Oilers in Game 1 of the 2022 Western Conference Final. Nathan MacKinnon’s empty netter put them past that mark.
Most Goals By Both Teams Combined
Going back to that Oilers game, the Avalanche won 8-6, which was a total of 14 goals between the two clubs. Again, MacKinnon’s empty-netter was the difference against the Wild. It put them past that game, as a total of 15 goals were scored in this game.
Players With Multiple Points
For just the second time in franchise history, and the first time since the second round in 2002, the Avalanche had seven players record multiple points.
Devon Toews led the way with four, followed by three from MacKinnon, Cale Makar, and Martin Necas. They also got two from Valeri Nichushkin, Artturi Lehkonen, and Sam Malinski.
An NHL First
The Avalanche did something that had not yet been done in Stanley Cup playoff history. It’s not just a franchise first, but an NHL first.
Colorado became the first team to lead by three in a game, then eventually trail, before coming back to still win by three or more goals.
Defensemen Scoting
For the first time in franchise history, four Avalanche defensemen scored in the same game. Makar had two, while Toews, Malinski, and Nick Blankenburg each had one.
Colorado’s blueliners accounted for five of the team’s nine goals.
