Aaron Judge wants Yankees to add new twist to iconic Yankee Stadium tradition

Tradition runs deep with the New York Yankees. They are the most storied franchise in MLB history. From the pinstripes to the roll call to the music that plays after every game, Yankee Stadium has long been defined by its consistency. But now, team captain Aaron Judge is proposing a small, but meaningful change. And it’s one rooted in honoring a legend.

A Tribute to a Legendary Voice

Following the passing of longtime Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling, Judge has suggested the team adjust its postgame routine at Yankee Stadium, not replace it. Add to it.

Specifically, Judge wants the Yankees to play Sterling’s iconic call— “Theeeee Yankees win!” to play over the stadium speakers after home victories, just before the traditional outro music begins.

Keeping Tradition Intact

For decades, the Yankees have played “New York, New York” following games at Yankee Stadium. There was once a split:

  • A celebratory version after wins
  • A more somber version after losses

But in recent years, the team has used the same Frank Sinatra version regardless of the result. Judge isn’t asking to change that. He’s asking to enhance it.Yankees John Sterling cause of death

Sterling More Than Just a Voice

Sterling’s voice wasn’t just part of Yankees broadcasts—it was part of the franchise’s identity. For generations of fans, his signature call was the moment a win became official. Adding it to the in-stadium experience would:

  • Honor his legacy
  • Connect fans to decades of history
  • Create a new emotional moment after victories

A Simple Change with Big Impact

What makes Judge’s idea so powerful is how simple it is. No overhaul. No disruption to tradition. Just a brief moment—one voice, one call—that bridges past and present.

Aaron Judge isn’t trying to rewrite Yankees history. He’s trying to preserve it. And if the team adopts his idea, every home win will come with something extra: A reminder of the voice that defined them for generations.
