A.J. Brown Trade to Patriots Appears Imminent as Two GMs Weigh In

The anticipated trade of A.J. Brown seems to be nearing a conclusion, according to a report from SportsBoom's Jason La Canfora on Sunday. Two NFL general managers, who are not part of the ongoing discussions, have provided insights into the situation between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.

"I hear it's New England for a 2028 first-round pick. He's a good football player, but that's a helluva deal for Howie," remarked one GM. A second GM gave a more definitive view, stating, "It's getting done. Howie is ready to put this behind him."

The 2028 first-round pick appears to be a middle ground that both teams can agree upon. Initially, Eagles GM Howie Roseman aimed for a 2027 first-round selection, but New England hesitated, largely due to the perception that the 2027 draft class is stronger and more valuable than the current one. The shift to a 2028 pick makes the deal more appealing for both sides.

This trade aligns with the Eagles' offseason strategy, as they have been actively revamping their receiving corps in anticipation of this move. Philadelphia drafted Makai Lemon with their 20th pick and added Marquise Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and Elijah Moore through free agency, while still retaining DeVonta Smith as a key target for quarterback Jalen Hurts.

For the Patriots, acquiring Brown would address their most pressing need. With Stefon Diggs, who led the team in receiving yards during their Super Bowl run, now a free agent, bringing on Brown would provide New England with a proven three-time Pro Bowler. He has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for four consecutive seasons, potentially transforming the team's offensive capabilities.
