A'ja Wilson Makes History as Aces Defeat Storm 101-91
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A stellar performance from A’ja Wilson propelled the Las Vegas Aces to a 101-91 victory over the Seattle Storm on Monday night. Wilson scored 34 points, collected 12 rebounds, dished out nine assists, and recorded three blocks. Her impressive scoring effort made her the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 6,000 career points, achieving this milestone in just 278 games, surpassing Diana Taurasi's previous record of 291 games.
Wilson secured her double-double with an offensive rebound and then hit a jumper from the free-throw line to reach the historic mark. She finished the game with a shooting percentage of 52.6%, converting 10 of 19 attempts from the field, including three shots from beyond the arc, and going 11 for 13 at the free-throw line.
Jackie Young also made a significant contribution to the Aces' win, scoring 29 points. For Seattle, Dominique Malonga led the scoring with 19 points, while Natisha Hiedeman added 17. The Storm, now with a record of 3-10, struggled on the road, falling to 1-6 away from home.
The Aces took control early in the second quarter, launching a 19-6 run that helped them secure a 50-43 lead by halftime, thanks in part to Wilson's 21 points in the first half. Young's three-pointer with just over a minute remaining in the game marked Las Vegas’ tenth of the night, pushing their score past the century mark.
Next up, Seattle will host the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, while the Aces are set to face off against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.
