Azzi Fudd Asks Stephen Curry for a 3-Point Contest Rematch After WNBA Title

CHICAGO — Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd asked Stephen Curry for a rematch on Friday night, minutes after becoming the first rookie to win the WNBA 3-Point Contest.

"Steph if you're listening, I've been asking for a rematch since high school," Fudd said. "Maybe it's our time."

Fudd and Curry first shot against each other at his SC30 Select Camp in 2018, when Fudd was a 15-year-old high school student. She went on to become the first sophomore named Gatorade National Player of the Year, won a national championship at UConn in 2025, and was selected No. 1 overall by the Wings in April.

She added the 3-point title on Friday at Wintrust Arena, scoring 30 of a possible 40 points in the final round to beat Portland Fire forward Bridget Carleton, who finished with 19. Fudd opened the round by making all five balls on the first rack and hit eight of her final 10 attempts.

Curry has competed against a WNBA player at All-Star Weekend before. He beat New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu in the Stephen vs. Sabrina 3-Point Challenge at the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. Ionescu shot first and scored 26. Curry answered with 29 and was presented with a championship belt.

Ionescu holds the record for either league. She made 25 of 27 attempts during her final round at the 2023 WNBA contest and won the event again in 2025. She was invited to this year's field but did not compete, and has disputed reporting that characterized her absence as declining an invitation.

Curry has won the NBA 3-Point Contest twice, in 2015 and 2021. He announced earlier this year that he plans to return to the event in 2027 in Phoenix.

It remains to be seen if Curry and the NBA will work to do another 3-Point Contest that loops in Fudd or other WNBA stars. If it were to take place in 2027, it would be at the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona, the next host of NBA All-Star Weekend.

Fudd said she would return to defend her title if the league asks her back, adding that the decision is not hers to make. She averages 13.2 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in her first professional season while shooting 45.7% from the field. Her 53 3-pointers lead all rookies, and she shot close to 45% from beyond the arc in her final season at UConn.

Fudd was not selected to either All-Star roster. Wings teammates Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard were both named starters and will play on opposing teams.
