Brewers' Brandon Sproat Exits Game Against Guardians Due to Hamstring Cramp
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Sproat exited Wednesday night’s game against the Cleveland Guardians due to a right hamstring cramp he experienced while facing Steven Kwan in the fourth inning. After throwing an 0-1 pitch that resulted in a ball, Brewers' head athletic trainer Brad Epstein promptly visited the mound to assess Sproat's condition, at which point he was replaced by Chad Patrick from the bullpen.
Sproat's departure followed a challenging fourth inning, during which he surrendered a grand slam to Daniel Schneemann. The right-hander had initially dominated the game, retiring nine consecutive batters and helping the Brewers establish a 5-0 advantage. However, he struggled in the fourth, issuing two walks and a single to the first three batters he faced. Following a strikeout of Rhys Hoskins, Schneemann capitalized on a 2-2 pitch, launching it over the right-field fence.
After getting David Fry to pop out, Sproat was forced to leave the game during Kwan's at-bat. The Brewers acquired Sproat in a January trade that sent two-time All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets. In his first complete season in the majors, he holds a record of 1-4 with a 5.94 ERA.
