Browns release veteran offensive tackle after just one season
The Cleveland Browns have made another move toward overhauling their offensive line this season.
After trading for an extending offensive tackle Tytus Howard yesterday, the Browns have now cleared another name off the roster. Despite signing with the Browns last offseason and despite having another year left on his contract, the Browns have parted ways with veteran offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas.
Lucas appeared in 10 games for the Browns a year ago, including five starts at both left and right tackle. His success, however, was quite limited. There is a reason that Lucas is no longer on the roster. The Browns also cut reserve center Justin Osborne.
All-in-all, these moves saved the Browns $2.6 million in cap relief as they get set for NFL free agency next week. As a reminder, teams may begin legally tampering with free agents on Monday, but cannot officially sign them or execute trades until the new league year begins on Wednesday of next week.
Lucas will be looking for a new home, and the Browns will be looking to continue to upgrade their offensive line.
