Bryson DeChambeau, Tommy Fleetwood among notables to miss cut at PGA Championship
NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Michael Kim needed a birdie at the last to play the weekend and he did one better. He holed a 65-foot eagle putt from the fringe and pumped his right fist knowing that he gave himself a chance to compete for the Wanamaker Trophy.
It took a 36-hole aggregate of 4-over 144 at Aronimink Golf Club to be among the 82 players to make the weekend at the 2026 PGA Championship. There would've been one more but Angel Ayora of Spain, playing in the final group of the day, missed a 25-foot putt at the last and can book a flight home. But just eight shots separate the 15 players who made the cut on the number — including Shane Lowry, Daniel Berger and European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald — and co-leaders Alex Smalley and Maverick McNealy, who are tied at 4-under 136.
Several notables were not so fortunate, including Bryson DeChambeau, and Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley, who are both in the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking. Here’s a closer look at those who packed up early.
Bryson DeChambeau
The two-time U.S. Open champion missed the cut after digging himself a big hole on Thursday. He shot 76-71 to miss the cut. He was dead last in the field in Strokes Gained: Around the Green on Thursday and just 1 of 7 in scrambling. The LIV Golfer also only hit half of the greens in regulation.
Michael Block
Everyone’s favorite club pro opened with an even-par 70 on Thursday and beat the likes of Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau but he couldn’t find that same magic on Friday. He bogeyed the last two holes to shoot 75 and miss the cut by one. When the soon-to-be 50 year old was asked if this was his final PGA appearance, Block replied, "I have to be honest with you — there’s no way on God’s green earth this is my last one No chance. I will definitely qualify for one more, if not five more." We’d love to see it.
Akshay Bhatia
A disappointing week for the Arnold Palmer Invitational champ. Bhatia had a share of the lead in the early goings on Thursday, but he shot 74 on Friday and missed the cut by one. Bhatia also missed the cut at the Masters last month.
Russell Henley
After contending at the Masters last month, Russell Henley entered the PGA with high hopes. But he bogeyed three of the last six holes to shoot 72-73 and miss the cut by one.
Robert MacIntyre
The Scotsman has missed the cut at both of the majors this season. Blame it on his short game this time. He was 3 of 12 in scrambling for 36 holes. MacIntyre was 2 over with seven holes to play but doubled No. 3 and bogeyed No. 8 to miss by one.
Tommy Fleetwood
The reigning FedEx Cup champ was sent packing after rounds of 72-73. Fleetwood made only two birdies in two rounds and both were at the par-5 ninth. It’s his first missed cut in 10 starts this season.
Garrick Higgo
The South African will rue his two-stroke penalty for showing up late to the first tee by a minute in the first round. That was the difference in making or missing the cut for Higgo. He managed to shoot 69 in the first round despite the penalty but his second round was marred by five bogeys in a six-hole stretch starting at No. 13.
Wyndham Clark
The 2023 U.S. Open champion opened with a 75 that included two doubles. He had rallied on Friday with three front-nine birdies but a triple-bogey 7 at No. 11 took the wind out of his sails and he missed by one.
Tyrrell Hatton
The Englishman missed the cut with rounds of 72-74. He was just 4 of 12 in scrambling and ranked 135th in Strokes Gained: putting.
J.J. Spaun
The reigning U.S. Open champion shot 70-76. He made just one birdie on Friday. His poor putting sealed his fate. He lost nearly 5 strokes to the field on the greens and ranked No. 150 in SG: putting.
Viktor Hovland
The Norwegian shot 74-72 and missed just his second cut in 11 starts this season. Hovland’s short game tells the ugly story. He was 5 of 16 in scrambling and ranked 152nd in SG: putting.
Sepp Straka
Straka shot a pair of 73s to miss the cut for the third time in 12 starts this season. This one will sting a bit because he bogeyed three of the last four holes to miss the cut. He drove it poorly, hitting just 11 of 28 fairways and ranking 136th in SG: Off the Tee. His putter wasn’t much better: he ranked 134th in SG: Putting.
Keegan Bradley
Fifteen years after winning the PGA Championship, Bradley left early and frustrated. He shot 74-72. Bradley made just one birdie each round, which didn’t cut it. It snapped a streak of six straight made cuts.
Gary Woodland
The winner of the PGA Tour stop in Houston last month shot 72-74. He made just one birdie each day and his putter let him down. It’s his first missed cut since the Players in March.
Jacob Bridgeman
One of the hottest players in the world earlier this year, Bridgeman has cooled off of late. He missed his first cut of the season at the PGA after a pair of 74s. Known for his putting prowess, he ranked 127th in SG: Putting this week.
Adam Scott
Making his 99th consecutive start at a major, Scott made an early exit with rounds of 72-76. He ranked 146th in SG: Putting.
Billy Horschel
The past FedEx Cup champion got in the field thanks to a special invite but couldn’t make the most of it. He shot a pair of 74s.
Max Homa
The former Cal Bear shot 75-77 and was sent packing. He failed to make a single birdie on Friday and only one in 36 holes.
