Caitlin Clark Faces Challenges in Fever's Heavy Losses

Caitlin Clark, the standout guard for the Indiana Fever, experienced a tough outing despite reaching a significant career milestone on Thursday. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve 500 career assists. However, this achievement was overshadowed by her season-low performance of just 16 points, shooting at a mere 25% as the Fever fell to the Golden State Valkyries, 90-88.

The Fever's struggles continued in their next game against the Portland Fire, where they faced a daunting 87-62 deficit heading into the final quarter. Clark, dealing with foul trouble, was limited in her offensive options and could not deliver her usual three-point shooting prowess. Ultimately, the Fever lost 100-84, with Clark contributing only six points on 1-for-7 shooting, including 0-for-2 from beyond the arc, along with six assists.

This lackluster performance in Portland marked one of the lowest points of Clark's career, with her shooting percentage at just 14.3%, second only to her three-point outing of 10% against the New York Liberty during the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup on June 2, 2024.

The Fever now stand at 4-4 for the season, and the upcoming schedule presents tough challenges. They are set to host the Atlanta Dream on Thursday, where Clark will face her former teammate Angel Reese for the first time since Reese's transfer from Chicago to Atlanta. Following that, the Fever will travel to New York to take on the Liberty and then head to Washington D.C. to play the Mystics, all part of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, which the Fever claimed last year.
