Christoph Freund’s future to be decided by Bayern Munich executive board

While much of the attention surrounding Bayern Munich’s front office has centered on player transfers and squad planning, another important piece of the club’s future could soon be addressed behind the scenes.

According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), sporting director Christoph Freund is in an excellent position to earn a contract extension. Although his current deal runs through 2027, decisions regarding his future will be made by Bayern Munich’s executive board — Jan-Christian Dreesen, Max Eberl, and Rouven Kasper — rather than the club’s supervisory board. That confidence appears to be well deserved:

While much of his work has focused on supporting the first team alongside Eberl, his responsibilities have expanded beyond the senior squad. His involvement with Bayern’s Campus and youth development system has reportedly been particularly well received, reflecting the club’s continued emphasis on building a sustainable pipeline of talent.

That dual role is significant. Bayern Munich has long prided itself on balancing immediate success with long-term planning, and having executives who can oversee both first-team recruitment and player development is critical to achieving that balance.
