Cole Strange Shares Insights on Joining Chargers Due to McDaniel’s Offense

Newly acquired Los Angeles Chargers guard Cole Strange has quickly become well-versed in the team's offensive strategy, thanks to his previous collaboration with head coach Mike McDaniel at the Miami Dolphins. Although he just signed with the Chargers in March, Strange’s familiarity with McDaniel's approach was a significant factor in his decision to join the team during free agency.

Strange emphasized the importance of consistency in an offensive scheme, stating, “I think consistency in scheme is a big deal. It’s not really talked about much, but running the same offense, particularly this one is unique.” He expressed that the opportunity to work within a familiar system for consecutive seasons was appealing to him.

Having signed a two-year contract worth $13 million, Strange remarked that McDaniel's offensive style, which often emphasizes running off the ball, aligns well with his own strengths. He noted that his athletic ability is a greater asset than his size, making the scheme a suitable fit. “I feel like I’ve been comfortable, but there is a little natural comfort to it,” he explained, also mentioning that elements of McDaniel's scheme resemble what he practiced during his college days at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Strange added, “The longer you’re in an offense or a scheme, the better, because you know the calls, you know the technique. It’s not like you’re ground zero every year.” As he prepares for the upcoming season, the Chargers will commence their preseason journey against the Houston Texans on August 13.
