Colts Add Former Ravens Defensive Back Reuben Lowery to Retired List
Reuben Lowery, a defensive back who previously played for the Baltimore Ravens, has taken an unforeseen step in his football career. The Indianapolis Colts have placed Lowery on the Reserve/Retired list, following his acquisition from the Ravens last season.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent, Lowery hails from Powder Springs, Georgia. During his time with the Ravens, he participated in three games and made one start, totaling five tackles after securing a spot on the team's 53-man roster post-training camp. His journey with Baltimore included a notable rise, as he impressed coaches with his versatility and ability to contribute on special teams.
Lowery's NFL journey began after he went undrafted in 2025, having played for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Known for his resilience and skills, he was a standout player in college, racking up 166 tackles and earning multiple Academic All-SoCon honors. His performance as a senior earned him first-team All-SoCon recognition.
Despite his promising start, Lowery's time with the Ravens came to an end as the team revamped its secondary. He was waived after Baltimore acquired safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and traded for Alohi Gilman, but was quickly claimed by the Colts, who saw potential in his background and college achievements.
Though Lowery's stint with the Colts was brief, his experience underscores the importance of adaptability in the league. His placement on the retired list marks a significant shift in his career trajectory.
