Community Unites to Support Former Football Player Kyle Vasey Following Tragic Accident
Kyle Vasey, a former football player at Wallenpaupack High School and Penn State University, is facing a grave challenge after suffering severe injuries in a tragic accident. His local community is coming together to support him following a heartbreaking incident in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where he and his fiancée, Corinne More, were struck by a vehicle.
On June 1, while walking on a sidewalk, Vasey and More were hit by a car driven by 28-year-old Adam Bauserman, who fled the scene after the collision. More tragically lost her life at the age of 35, while Vasey sustained critical injuries. A third victim, 72-year-old Dianne Windes, was also injured in the accident. Bauserman was later apprehended and faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and assault, with bail set at $100,000. He had previously faced numerous license revocations due to DUI offenses.
In response to Vasey's medical needs, his parents, Shelley and Bruce, launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the mounting costs, which have already included six surgeries to address various fractures and internal injuries. As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign has raised over $27,000. The family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating, "We ask for prayers and remain hopeful for his recovery."
Mark Watson, Vasey's former head coach, expressed his shock at the news, saying, “Kyle and I have been very close, and we communicated often. You never envision that your players will have these things happen.” He emphasized Vasey's resilience, noting that “he is a tough guy, and he always embraces challenges.”
Vasey’s journey in football began at Delaware Valley Regional in New Jersey, where he distinguished himself as a long snapper. His dedication led him to Penn State, where he became a starter and earned a scholarship during his senior year. After going undrafted, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2018.
Those who know him, like former teammate Gavin Hiller, highlight his character and dedication, stating, “Kyle is someone who genuinely cares about people. He showed everyone that hard work and discipline can open doors.” The Vasey family’s commitment to their community and each other serves as a testament to their values and generosity.
