Concerns Mount Over Kyle Tucker's Struggles with Dodgers
Kyle Tucker’s performance issues are proving to be a persistent challenge for the Los Angeles Dodgers. After struggling with the Chicago Cubs post-injury last season, he has yet to regain his previous form with his new team. As we approach mid-June, it’s becoming increasingly worrisome for the franchise.
Despite some ups and downs in the previous year, Tucker’s current statistics indicate a significant decline. In 2025, he boasted a batting average of .266 and an OPS of .841, but in 2026, those figures have dropped to .235 and .709, respectively. This downward trend is evident in multiple metrics, including exit velocity, barrel percentage, and hard-hit rate.
Among the metrics, the only concerning increase is his whiff percentage, which has climbed from 20.2% to 23.7%. Given that Tucker is earning over $50 million annually as the offseason’s most expensive free agent, the Dodgers are feeling the pressure for him to perform. The Cubs opted not to retain him, and few teams could match the financial commitment made by Los Angeles.
Tucker was expected to thrive in an already robust lineup, alleviating some of the performance pressure. However, the substantial contract adds a different kind of expectation. If he fails to turn things around, the implications for the Dodgers could be severe.
As the season progresses, the pressure intensifies on Tucker to elevate his game and justify the significant investment made by the Dodgers.
