Conor McGregor claims there will be news on injury soon, says loss to Max Holloway should be a no contest
Conor McGregor is back on the road to recovery after yet another disappointing first-round TKO loss that came with a leg injury. Now, the Irishman has provided two specific notes following UFC 329 this past Saturday.
In his rematch against Max Holloway in the event's headliner, McGregor, 37, ended a five-year layoff. It didn't take long for disaster to strike, as the former two-division champion started the fight with a jumping switch kick. Just like that, McGregor suffered a knee injury that immediately hindered his movement, leading him to a TKO defeat only 69 seconds into his return.
Late Wednesday night, McGregor took to social media and addressed his injury status. He added that he believes the fight result should be changed.

A few notes
1. I will have the results of the scan on my leg tomorrow.
2. The fight should be a no contest and all bets returned.
McGregor didn't state whether he would appeal the decision, but by rule, the fight can't be ruled a no contest, as it didn't end via an illegal strike. For recent comparison's sake, look at Joshua Van's title-winning effort against Alexandre Pantoja. The latter suffered a dislocated elbow 26 seconds into the bout, losing his title.
If the fight were overturned to a no contest, that would have quite the bearing on bets that were placed. The in-cage result was a TKO loss, making all betting action final at sportsbooks after the fight.
McGregor's five-year absence from competition came after he fractured his lower leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. In his time off, McGregor reportedly used banned substances to heal from his injury. He aimed to return sooner, getting booked for a clash with Michael Chandler for June 2024. That was until he withdrew with a broken pinky toe. Later that year, he was found liable for the sexual assault of Nikita Hand.
The latest loss to Holloway extended McGregor's losing streak to three. His last win came over Donald Cerrone via a 40-second TKO in January 2020.
