Contreras Powers Red Sox Past Yankees with Three RBIs in 5-3 Win

NEW YORK (AP) — Willson Contreras shone brightly on Friday evening, belting a home run and driving in three runs to propel the Boston Red Sox to a 5-3 victory over the New York Yankees. The Yankees faced a setback as they placed Aaron Judge on the injured list due to a stress fracture in his right rib.

Contreras continued his impressive streak, launching a two-run homer off Ryan Weathers (2-4) that soared into the second deck in left field during the fifth inning. He also contributed an infield single earlier in the game, which broke a 1-1 deadlock in the third inning.

Andrew Monasterio added to Boston's scoring with a home run in the fourth, while Wilyer Abreu's RBI groundout rounded out the Red Sox's efforts, marking their 10th victory in the last 13 games on the road.

Starting pitcher Sonny Gray (7-1) delivered a solid performance, yielding three runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings. The Yankees have now dropped three of their last four games following Judge's injury, with the team announcing he will be reassessed in four to six weeks. Ben Rice and Trent Grisham both hit home runs off Gray, while Spencer Jones, called up to fill Judge's spot, notched an RBI single and recorded his first career three-hit game. Weathers struggled, giving up five runs and seven hits in six innings, remaining without a win in his last five starts.
