Corinthians Stage Comeback to Defeat Grêmio 3-1

In a thrilling encounter at the Arena in Porto Alegre, Corinthians overturned an initial deficit to secure a 3-1 victory over Grêmio on Saturday, July 30, during the 18th round of the 2026 Brasileirão.

Grêmio started strong, applying pressure early in the match. Just before the 10-minute mark, Carlos Vinícius found the back of the net from inside the box. Although Breno Bidon managed to clear the ball off the line, Gabriel Mec took advantage of the opportunity, scoring the opening goal for the home side.

Corinthians sought to respond quickly, launching attacks from the wings. Yuri Alberto had a chance when he headed the ball toward goal, only for it to be saved spectacularly by goalkeeper Thiago Beltrame. The equalizer came in stoppage time, when Breno Bidon delivered a cross that was poorly cleared by Viery, allowing André to strike decisively and level the score.

The second half began with both teams trading chances, but Corinthians seized control with rapid-fire goals. André connected with Yuri Alberto before breaking through for a one-on-one with Beltrame, putting Timão ahead. Just two minutes later, Kaio César advanced down the right flank and finished expertly, extending their lead.

Grêmio's challenges intensified when debutant Thiago Beltrame, who had stepped in for the unavailable Weverton, was sent off for a foul on Matehus Bidu, leading to the introduction of Gabriel Menegon. Menegon made an impressive start, saving a free kick in Garro's signature style.

With this victory, Corinthians secured their second consecutive win in the Brasileirão, climbing to ninth place with 24 points, while Grêmio remained in 15th with 21 points. The team from Rio Grande do Sul could find themselves in the relegation zone by the end of the round if Santos wins and narrows the goal difference. Following the World Cup break, Corinthians will next face Remo at Neo Química Arena on July 22, while Grêmio travels to Mirassol on the same day.
