Danville Softball Advances to State Final with Victory Over Dalton

The Danville softball team showcased their skills in a commanding performance, defeating Dalton 11-4 in the OHSAA Division VI state semifinal held on June 3 at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The victory was marked by a strong offensive surge, particularly during the third and fourth innings, where they scored seven runs.

Freshman shortstop Dalayna Parker shone at the plate, going 3 for 4, while senior first baseman Ruby Bartok contributed significantly with a home run. Senior pitcher Addy Bocock delivered an impressive outing, striking out 12 batters and allowing just nine hits without issuing a single walk, helping Danville improve to a 24-5 record.

Despite falling behind 2-0 early in the game, Danville quickly responded. Freshman third baseman Kaylee Martin began the rally with a lead-off single, followed by Bartok’s walk. Parker then brought Martin home with a single, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Bartok’s home run ignited a third-inning offensive explosion, followed by singles from Parker and sophomore designated player Liz John, leading to a go-ahead hit from Taylor Meade.

As the game progressed, Danville extended their lead with additional runs in the fourth inning, driven by Parker's continued hitting and an error from Dalton. John also contributed to the score with a single that brought in another run. The Blue Devils capped their scoring with further runs in the sixth, securing a comfortable lead.

This win places Danville in the state finals for the third time, having previously claimed the Division IV title in 2008 and finishing as runners-up in 2017. They will face West Jefferson, who previously defeated Van Wert Lincolnview 8-0, at 5:30 p.m. on June 4. This matchup will be a rematch of last year's district final, where West Jefferson triumphed 3-0.
