Dayton Flyers Set to Face South Florida in Upcoming Basketball Matchup
The Dayton Flyers men's basketball team has secured a matchup against South Florida, scheduled for December 12 at UD Arena, as reported by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein on June 2. Following this home game, the Flyers will travel to Tampa to play South Florida during the 2027-28 season.
This announcement coincided with Dayton's earlier revelation that they will host the Cincinnati Bearcats on November 14 at their home venue. Last season, South Florida finished with an impressive record of 25-9 and made an appearance in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012. However, following the season, head coach Bryan Hogdson departed for a position at Providence, paving the way for Chris Mack—previously with Xavier, Louisville, and Charleston—to step in as the new head coach.
Chris Mack's last encounter with Dayton was during the Advocare Invitational championship in 2015, when his Xavier team triumphed over the Flyers. Historically, Dayton and South Florida have faced each other six times, with the most recent game occurring in 1997, where Dayton claimed victory in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico. The Flyers lead the all-time series 4-2.
In addition to the games against Cincinnati and South Florida, Dayton is also set to face Liberty, Florida State, and Memphis in their non-conference schedule this season.
